The youngest of six brothers, Mohammed Rafi was born with a talent of singing and this was recognised by his brother's friend who encouraged him to move to Mumbai and pursue singing as a career.
Mohammed Rafi turned out to be the biggest singing sensation for close to three decades. He got his first Bollywood break with the film Gaon Ki Gori and the song was Aji Dil Ho Kaaboo Mein.
From then on there has been nothing stopping this legend. His songs became a rage and his music, sensational. All of this happened during the time when India was struggling for freedom and after the partition, he decided to be in India and his family soon joined him.
Mohammed Rafi was known to have his best pairing with music Director Naushad Ali. He also went on to work with other legends like S.D Burman, Laxmikant-Pyarelal, Shankar Jaikishan and others.
He won several awards for his songs. The most notable of his awards is the one that got him the Nation Award. It was for the film Hum Kisise Kum Naheen and the song being the famous and melodious Kya Hua Tera Wada composed by R.D Burman.
Mohammed Rafi died on 31st July, 1980. What is shockingly beautiful is the fact that Mohammed Rafi sang Shaam Phir Kyun Udaas Hai Dost just a few hours before his demise.
Mohammed Rafi continues to be a great inspiration to many aspiring and established singers.
