While many strive for the glitter of golden success in B-town, a coveted few can proudly boast of having achieved it. So who really shone over the past year? We look back…

It's the first day of Diwali. And while many celebrate Dhanteras by bursting crackers and lighting diyas, we choose to mark the occasion in the most traditional way – by sticking to gold, a metal that's considered most auspicious on this day.

And as soon as we think of 'gold', images of stars like Salman Khan, Aamir Khan and Vidya Balan and movie makers like Aurag Basu and other Bollywood personalities instantly pop up in our minds. Why? Ah-ha! Not so soon, dear readers. You will have to peek into the gallery to find out how exactly these B-towners have struck gold. Happy Dhanteras!

  • bDhanush with Kolaveri Di (November 2011)/bbr /Now this was one sneaky surprise that went viral and earned so many clicks in a short period of time that YouTube honoured it with 'Recently Most Popular' Gold Medal and 'Trending' Silver Medal awards. Kolaveri di was the song on everyone's lips, working its way through the sentences and happily playing on iPods. It was written and sung by Dhanush and composed by Anirudh Ravichander for the Tamil movie 3.

  • bVidya Balan with Kahaani (March 2012) /bbr /Balan shocked us with her unabashed performance in The Dirty Picture. And perhaps she wanted us to continue looking bewildered, 'coz she delivered an applaud-worthy performance in Kahaani just when we were recovering from the Silk hangover. You nailed it, Balan! Kahaani earned over Rs 109 crore and left an indelible mark on the minds of its audience.

  • bPoonam Pandey with her antics (March 2012) /bbr /Now here was a deliberate effort that involved some frantic digging – and shedding – to strike gold. And Poonam did, even if it was just for a fraction of a second. This lady was the talk of the town for what she had done, and continued to do. Betting nudity over cricket matches was what worked for Poonam. But this classic case of blink and miss stardom was the story of gold-plated success that wore off after a while.

  • bAamir Khan with Satyamev Jayate (May 2012) /bbr /Expectations were riding high on this television show with a social cause, and undoubtedly Aamir Khan delivered his best. Mr Perfectionist managed to tug at the most sensitive heartstrings that happened to be connected directly to his audiences' tear ducts. And it also generated enough controversies to keep people and news-makers hooked to its first season. The show reached out to 8.96 million people. Yup, Aamir, you totally rocked!

  • bSalman Khan with Ek Tha Tiger (August 2012) /bbr /Now Salman is known for his Midas touch. We know, you know. So we weren't utterly surprised that his movie Ek Tha Tiger, that co-starred Katrina Kaif, crossed the whopping Rs 200 crore mark at the box office. Even so, we can't take away from the fact that Sallu has maintained his stardom very well. Yes, peeps, the guy is practically sitting on a gold mine…and we totally love it!

  • bAnurag Basu with Barfi! (September 2012) /bbr / The filmmaker happened to cast Priyanka Chopra, Ranbir Kapoor and Ileana D'Cruz in a chaplinesque movie that worked its golden magic on viewers. It left the masses mesmerised and effortlessly crossed the Rs 100 crore mark. What's more, performances of the actors in this simple, slice of life film makes it one movie that struck gold!

  • bShahrukh Khan with Jab Tak Hai Jaan (November 2012) /bbr /No, it's not confirmed yet that Jab Tak Hai Jaan will strike gold. But strong buzz about the movie's golden status after the untimely demise of its maker Yash Chopra does make one expect that this movie will indeed strike gold in the coming week or two. Will it? Won't it? Time to wait and watch!
