We track the journey of a handful of B-town celebs who were barely-known-wannabes until they made that noteworthy transition to headline grabbers in one clean sweep

Who said it's easy to break into the glitzy world of Bollywood? In today's age and times, when competition is getting fiercer by the day and the attention spans are at almost-rock bottom, it's not easy to grab eyeballs.Yet these shining, new-age celebs, who were almost nobody till yesterday, have suddenly emerged as household names. Thanks to a curious turn of events or the skills they have mastered, these stars have come a long way to bask in the glory of their new-found fame. In other words, they were just simmering lavangi till last Diwali, but have now become earsplitting atom bombs. Take a look at our interesting list of celebs who marked that historic transition in a more than noteworthy way….

  • bParineeti Chopra:/bbr / She's gawky, petite, well-rounded and comes with barely any distinctive attributes to make it big on the silver screen and yet the Ishaqzaade actor has managed to grab stardom double-quick. She impressed us with her power-packed performance in her debut film Ladies Vs Ricky Bahl. Many say that Chopra brought a refreshing blast of change with her. Here is a girl who is miles away from the regular image of a diva. In fact, Parineeti's quirks, her imperfections and her rawness make her the lavangi that just turned into a dhamakedaar phataka.

  • bSapna Bhavnani:/bbr / The excessively confrontational and astonishingly controversial celebrity hair stylist has stayed behind the camera...till now. Big Boss 6 gave her the much-needed launch pad and the babe did not hesitate to display her true side to the world. And the resulting explosions shook the universe. Even the powerful Salman Khan tasted the scorching flames blsating from Bhavnani's blunt and stinging tongue.

  • bSiddharth Malhotra, Alia Bhatt and Varun Dhawan:/bbr / Had the two dashing dudes and the young charming haseena taken a walk down a Mumbai street before their debut film Student Of The Year hit the screens, they would have been dismissed as just more cute youngsters, but today the scenario is completely different for the trio. Theses days Karan Johar's obedient students are mobbed wherever they go and command definite attention. Their dapper looks, fine acting skills and KJo's mush-wala movie have certainly made them young bombs of the year!

  • bGauri Shinde:/bbr / Though her adman-turned-filmmaker husband R Balki has a solid standing in the industry with his delightful films like Cheeni Kum and Paa, wifey Gauri Shinde's potential as a director remained hidden under the long shadows of her hubby's wonderful cinematic creations. This year the Shinde sursuri was waiting to sizzle. The intelligent lady simply exploded earlier in 2012 on the big screen with her first directorial venture English Vinglish, starring Sridevi in the lead. Shinde certainly created a big noise with that film and easily broke into our list. The lavangi certainly metamorphosed into a potential atom bomb!

  • bAyushmann Khurana and Yami Gautam:/bbr / He was the discovery of a popular reality show and later morphed into a charismatic presenter/anchor. She was a model who appeared in a couple of television commercials and regional films. Ayushmann Khurana and Yami Gautam got a dream project in the form of John Abraham's production Vicky Donor. The film justified their talent and the result was there for all to see.

  • bBharti Singh:/bbr / When we say Bharti is the most surprising atom bomb package of the year, we don't mean size-wise. The motormouth gal not only grabbed our attention with her hilarious histrionics on the reality dance show Jhalak Dikkhhla Jaa, but also carried the show (read: boosted the TRPs) almost entirely on her mighty shoulders. The stand-up comedienne-turned-dance contestant was just a vaguely known face on the small screen before JDJ happened, but today Bharti is a crowd puller. Now that is a massive upgrade indeed!

  • bIlleana D'Cruz and Nargis Fakri:/bbr / The Barfi! actress and the Rockstar babe were known only in the modelling circuit or in South films for their pretty faces and interminably long legs. Today they are seen adorning magazine covers and strutting down the red carpet. Besides their charm, these babes are equipped with acting skills, incredible oomph and hard work and have become sizzling patakhas - that is praiseworthy, right, Ranbir Kapoor? Ahem ahem!

  • bNawzuddin Siddiqui: /bbr /When the pint-sized Nawazuddin Siddiqui appeared as the stern, uncompromising crime branch officer AK Khan in Sujoy Ghosh's Kahaani starring Vidya Balan, the 'dark' actor arrested our attention with his remarkable screen presence. He topped that act with yet another wonderfully well-etched character in Anurag Kashyap's Gangs Of Wasseypur, where the ordinary looking, skinny Siddiqui suddenly became a powerhouse of acting.
