In
the 2002 hit and run case of Salman Khan, a Mumbai court will begin a fresh
trial on Monday. On 5th December, the court had ordered a fresh
trial of the case. While ordering a fresh trial, the Sessions court judge, D W
Deshpande said that all the witnesses will be examined and cross examined during
the period of trial. He also said that the trial will be put on a fast track
mode. On Monday, the prosecution might also present a new list of witnesses and
evidences.
Before
the fresh trial, Salman Khan was tried for with the charges of culpable
homicide not amounting to murder. The charge attracts ten years of
imprisonment. Salman Khan had pleaded not guilty against the charges.
Earlier
the Bandra Metropolitan Magistrate court was running the trial for lesser
charges on the actor which included rash and negligent act causing death under
section 304 A of IPC. The charges on this case attract two years of
imprisonment. After this, the July 24 order came as a major blow for the actor
as he was tried for a severe charge.
The
case of Salman Khan dates back to September 28, 2002. In the wee hours of the
morning, Salman Khan's Land Cruiser drove over people sleeping on the pavement
outside a bakery in the suburban Bandra. In the accident, one person was killed
and four others were injured. The vehicle was allegedly driven by Salman Khan.
Salman Khan fled from the location and later surrendered in a police station.
The
trial of the case began on 2nd September, 2005. Only one witness out
of 39 witnesses turned up in the court.
In
2006, a local court framed as many as 10 charges on the actor.
Later
an NGO also demanded that their lawyer must be allowed from the prosecution
side. Their lawyer demanded that Salman Khan must be asked to be present for
all the trials. But looking at his film schedules, he was given some
relaxation. Salman Khan then launched a website informing the general public
about his court cases. He didn't want his fans to be misinformed about his
cases.
Currently
Salman Khan is busy with the promotions of his forthcoming movie 'Jai Ho'. The
movie will release on 24th January. The movie is directed by
Salman's brother, Sohail Khan.
